Topic 3: My Impression of Singapore

 Topic: My Impression of Singapore

Impression of Singapore

Good morning Mrs. MOHANDHAS & all of the participants

Let me introduce myself. My name is Seng Samreth, I joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia as a Government Official of the Department of Americas. Therefore knowledge of the English Language is very important for my present job and my future.

I have banned in Singapore for more than one month now, as you know, I came here to study English in the English for International Communication Course at RELC International Hotel just like the rest of you.

Now my topic is My impression of Singapore and I want to divide the topic into two points is:
1-My impressions in the classroom
2-My impressions at public places

The first point, In our classroom, we have many good English Teachers. They come from other countries around the world such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and especially our teacher from Malaysia. Mrs. Dhas teaches us the listening skills component and the Presentation skills component to us. At this point may I recall my old classes in the English language. I have never studied presentation skills or listening skills in such detail. Now for the first time, I am studying these skills and enjoying myself in the process. I was very surprised but now I understand clearly how and why these skills are taught and how they could help improve my English.

In my classroom, I have many friends from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. We
usually share our ideas, we talk about a lot of things such as our own country; economics, our tourist attractions, traditional games, our personal positions, and educational backgrounds, etc. So I think that this period of time Is a very good occasion for us to try to speak only English as full immersion In the language will help us improve our knowledge of English at a fast pace.

Secondly, Singapore Is a republic: with a parliamentary system, Singaporeans are made up of many nationalities which Include:
76.9 98 of Chinese.
14% of Malays,
7.7% of Indians and my grand total of the population is 3.89 million people.

Communication with Singaporeans ls easy because almost all understand and speak English, I also feel that It means that the public places are big classes for me and my friends to practice English.

I am also Impressed with new, high, big and nice buildings, modem transportation (MRT, Airplanes, Pars ) shopping centers, restaurants, Chinese Culture. Malay Culture. Indian Culture, and the high standard of living of me Singaporean,

Singapore Is a very very small country but It has the biggest shopping centers or we can any the biggest market In South East Asia, especially In the Orchard Road Shopping Centers you an find everything though the price is a little steep.

I am very impressed with SENTOSA ISLAND. Sentosa Is not just a tourist place, It can also be considered a cultural center because the historical beginnings of all cultures can be viewed here. It's also considered a cultural center because. It is a ‘must-visit' tourist spot.

I think we are all surprised that though Singapore doesn’t have any natural resources It Is 50 well developed and rich. It is very simple because Singapore has a lot of human resources, a lot of investors. Do you know of any other country that can develop without being dependent on natural resources but on human resources? There is no lack of investors willing to invest in reconstruction and developing the country.

In Conclusion, ladies and gentlemen,

May I say that I am happy to be in this beautiful and comfortable country learning to improve my spoken and written English. I hope I will be as fluent in it as my mother tongue.

Thank you for this opportunity to practice my spoken English.
